See, that’s what the app is perfect for.

Sounds perfect Wahhhh, I don’t wanna

Uuuuhhhhh guys (the 4 of you), I disappear (browse tumblr but don’t reblog) for weeks telling myself I will reblog posts later when I have the spoons to tag them properly but then I the backlog gets too big and I have to reblog mass with half assed tags anyway. I don’t know if this would destroy anyone’s dashes so maybe don’t follow me if you think it would? Pretty please? Sorry.

I'm curious, why did you decide to write Moon the way you did- not personality wise, but speaking in short (directish?) sentences? I really like that detail about him! (Also how, it's kinda hard T.T)

thedemonscrawler answered:

Part of the inspiration came from good ol’ Solar Lunacy. I think he’s a little more verbose in the fic itself, but especially in the comics Bam does, he has that direct way of speaking that caught my attention.

In roleplay I’d already worked with a character that I’d given a similar clipped speaking style, so for Moon I dialed it up to 11. It’s been really fun!

And oh absolutely |D it definitely gets tricky sometimes. There’s a couple of rules I more or less follow, though of course I’ll go with exceptions if that’s what flows.

So really what Moon does most of the time is jump straight to the subject of a sentence. For example, this bit from chapter 10:

image

We’ve cut down the question “do you want to switch?” To just the most important part. He does this a lot when asking or answering questions, usually followed up by a more normal, but still short sentence.

He also tends to drop the pronouns at the start of sentences, or words like ‘that’ or 'have’. This rule probably gets the most exceptions because sometimes a pronoun is needed anyway. This bit also from 10 demonstrates that, as well what was said above.

image

(Fun fact! The only time Moon uses the word “I” is when he says “I know”. Otherwise he always drops it from the sentence.)

If Moon can condense a thought down to a certain phrase, he does. Hence his use of “rulebreaker”, “intruder”, “Naptime”, etc. It’s really all about efficiency, and how can you communicate an idea in the fewest words. It also depends on who he’s talking to. He gets away with much, much shorter sentences when talking to Sun than when talking to Gregory, since he and Sun share common knowledge (like how you can repeat just a word or two from a meme your friends are familiar with and they immediately get it).

I hope that explained.. anything 8’“D

Just something small cos I liked the image in my head of Moon laying on top of someone like a cat trying to hide her kittens and decided I could make a scene out of it

You wake up to something climbing on top of you.

Like, on top of you. Though no weight actually lands on your body, the dip of the mattress behind and in front is more than enough to pull you from slumber’s sweet embrace. A lifetime shared intermittently with pets (and even more intermittently with partners) keeps you from lashing out as you wake up. The fact that the covers are pinning your limbs down also helps.

Hello! I wanted to ask if you could share another snippet of the Shadow Realm from Paper Slips (if you want to) please? I honest to god love your writing, and would love to see some more of it.

Also another question regarding writing, what inspired your style of writing? Or inspired in general.

thedemonscrawler answered:

Aaaah that’s a tough question to answer because at this point I don’t really know what inspired my ‘style’. It’s all pretty mashed together from a bunch of different sources.

Probably most of it comes from the fact I’ve roleplayed p much since I got on the internet, and the past 10 years pretty consistently. There’s a lot I’ve learned and accumulated from my past partners as we’ve built off one another, and RP is a constant system of getting responses and feedback on what’s working, how to take a narrative in a certain way, and how to get a specific response. Nothing really beats writing a reply that you know is going to have your partner going “AAAAAAAAAAAAA” at you.

I can still offer some authors, I think? Richard Adams (Watership Down) has some very, very good metaphorical and descriptive language, particularly in describing memory and senses other than sight. Terry Pratchett (the Discworld novels) has a good, opinionated narrator and a dry sense of humor. Douglas Adams (The Hitchhiker’s Guide) kind of meets in the middle, with a strong narrator and vivid metaphor.

And sure, I’d love to share another snippet! This section was originally from Chapter 8 when Gregory went to the Security Office, but it ended up getting cut in favor of the arcade machine.

Considering for a moment, he leaves the security office (the door opens, this time), making a beeline for the worktable next to the gutted arcade machine.

I'm curious, how is Y/N after the hospital? How are Sun and Moon doing? Is Sun torn, knowing it was the Glitch's fault or is he angry at Moon for not stopping himself?

kandidandi answered:

At first sun was PISSED OFF at moon for not controlling himself and almost destroyed moon and himself out of rage

image

Of course after the incident they were marked for scrapping but locked themselves in a supply closet chasing a hopeless fantasy where y/n would come back and save them, however, after the first few months they lost all sense of hope

image

Moon feels extremely guilty for what happened, even though sun knows it was the virus and not moon but moon still feels like he shouldn’t be forgiven no matter how desperately he craves it

As for y/n… well they’re doing way better but they still miss a certain someone

GREAT IDEA!!!

Often it’s said the reaction to tragedy is a quiet one.

In the wake of it all that can be felt is a hollow sort of stillness. That vacant pit we call apathy which arrives second to adrenaline and blankets you in a sense of ease for all of the few minutes it takes before your brain catches up to speed. What a beautiful relief, it is; to be let down easy. And how cruel, in that same regard, that the relief be something entirely human.

Because Moon feels nothing but grief.

A turn of fates which is so bitterly ironic, being that it was you who taught him how to feel anything at all.

CGI animators should unionize next. normally, their jobs would be too precarious to strike, since studios would replace them without a second thought, but if it's part of this larger general film strike, they might finally have meaningful power to better their working conditions

studentofetherium

if CGI animators unionized, it would kill the MCU. straight up. the the entire business model is built on exploiting CGI animators

I think I just accidentally became someone's loan shark??

Okay it sounds bad but bear with me:

Someone owes me a significant amount of money, and has made it clear that they do not intend to pay me back.

I sent them one text to follow up about it around two months ago, letting them know that I wasn't stressed about it and I could wait or do installments if they needed time or things were rough, and they promptly blocked my number and deleted me on social media.

I was kinda bummed, but then, you know. I figured, it's a lot of money, but at least they've removed themselves from my life, right? If I were to choose between thinking someone like that was a reliable friend or paying a lump sum for the trash to take itself out, I could make peace with it. Whatever. Live and learn.

So, I haven't seen them in a few months. Cool. But then I was walking downtown and I see someone out of the corner of my eye just sitting around, having a drink. Don't know who, don't know what. Not paying attention, yeah? I'm living my life.

But as I get closer to walk past them, I see them get up and start booking it. And as I turn to figure out what's up, why is someone running, I recognize the back of their head, and as they look over their shoulder, we make eye contact, and then they're gone.

And I realize

I just got off work. I'm power-walking in what could ostensibly be interpreted as their direction. They look up and see someone they ghosted, who they have screwed monumentally, coming at them with a hundred-yard-stare and what they may not know is a regular resting bitch face. I don't even care about the money anymore, I've accepted it as a loss, but they blocked me on everything so they don't know that. And they went, "fuck this shit, not today" and dipped.

And that would be funny on it's own, but we do not live in a large, heavily-populated area. It's definitely going to happen again. So my question is this:

How long are they going to let themselves live in fear of my stumpy 5'3" ass hunting them down like John Wick or the devil himself before they snap

And how good is this gonna get while I let them

teaboot

I need to be clear that I look like this

A cartoonist doodle of a small masculine figure with short hair and an undercut, making a kitty face and waving with both hands. They have multiple necklaces and bracelets and are wearing an oversized men's shirt that says "DILF" on it. An arrow pointing to them reads "hardened criminal"ALT

People don't like to admit it bcs cringe or w/e but Homestuck really did revolutionize the webcomic as a storytelling medium and I am endlessly frustrated that before webcomic artists could really stretch our legs fucking webtoonz swooped in, set a new, more restrictive standard, and then monetized and monopolized the ever living fuck out of the concept of The Webcomic until it drove away anyone who couldn't be a professional quality manga artist for free, and now the only webcomics that actually feel like spiritual successors to Homestuck are so obscure they're basically cult classics that you have to beg people to read.

Like it's just so wild to be in high school and see Homestuck be like "we're using like fifteen different artistic mediums to tell this story bcs we can" and be really fucking inspired by that, only to grow up and see basically every webcomic ever have to conform to One Single Standard or fucking perish.

lastoneout

Actually, I realized my real point here: we all need to make our art weirder. Please make weird art. I want more stuff like Prequel Adventure and 17776 and MyHouse.wad and I want it now. Capitalism thrives on conformity. We must be weird at all costs.

Well I-

I saw concept art for Grounded's early ideas and there was the idea of adding a "Daddy Long Legs (Spider)" in the game

I never heard of the term "Daddy Long Legs" and then I-

I researched for two hours about Opiliones and Pholcidae 👉👈💕

Also the idea of an epic picture came to my mind

Imagine we had these (fake) spiders in Grounded as neutral bugs, they'd just walk over the gras and they'd be super hard to kill

I also also thought of them as mounts, imagine making a saddle for them and walking around the yard, looking down at all the ants hehe
